There is something so special about celebrating a baby's first birthday. One moment they are tiny newborns curled up in your arms, and before you know it, they are crawling, laughing, showing off their personalities, and digging into their very first birthday cake.

This sweet little guy recently visited my Glen Carbon studio for his first birthday milestone and cake smash session, and he did not disappoint! From adorable smiles to frosting-covered fingers, every moment was filled with joy and personality.

A Fun Blue-Themed First Birthday Session

For this session, we chose a classic blue balloon backdrop featuring oversized number one décor and coordinating balloons in multiple shades of blue. The setup created the perfect timeless look while keeping all the attention on the birthday boy.

Before introducing the cake, we captured milestone portraits that showcased his growing personality. At one year old, babies are often crawling, standing, exploring, and interacting with everything around them. These images help preserve the incredible changes that happen during the first year of life.

The Cake Smash Fun Begins

Of course, the highlight of the session was the cake smash!

Some babies dive right in, while others take their time investigating. This little guy gave us a little bit of both. He carefully explored the cake before deciding it was worth digging into. The frosting-covered fingers, sweet expressions, and playful moments created memories his family will treasure forever.
