There is something extra sweet about photographing a brand-new baby during those first few weeks. The tiny toes, sleepy expressions, little smiles, and all of those details change so quickly!

This handsome little guy’s newborn session included a beautiful mix of rustic, classic, and simple portraits. We used rich greens, warm wood tones, soft blues, and a timeless neutral setup to create a gallery with plenty of variety while still keeping the focus exactly where it belongs—on baby.

A Baby Boy Newborn Session in Glen Carbon, IL

As an Edwardsville newborn photographer, I love creating newborn sessions that give parents a variety of images without every setup looking completely different from the next.

For his first setup, we used a rustic white wooden wagon with deep green textures and an adorable coordinating sleepy hat. The neutral wood backdrop kept the setup soft and timeless while allowing those beautiful green tones to stand out.

For another portrait, baby was wrapped in a dusty blue wrap and placed in a heart-shaped wooden prop surrounded by deeper blue textures. And that tiny newborn smile made this one even sweeter!

We also created a much simpler portrait using a soft neutral background and navy sleepy hat. Simple newborn portraits are some of my favorites because there is nothing distracting from baby's tiny features, little fingers, and sweet expression.

Beautiful newborn portraits are important, but newborn safety is always a priority at Conner James Photography.

I am triple certified in newborn posing and safety and have more than 13 years of experience photographing newborns. Over the years, I have photographed more than 3,000 babies and have developed a newborn workflow designed around both beautiful images and baby's comfort and safety.

Newborns should never be forced into a pose simply to create a photograph. Every baby is different, and I adjust posing and setups according to the individual baby in front of my camera.
